Colin Robey

Colin Robey has spent more than sixty years working across heavy and light rail, with almost two decades of that time dedicated to UKTram and the advancement of the light rail sector.

During his career, Colin has played a significant role in shaping strategy, governance and professional standards. He served as a UKTram Director from 2011 to 2017 and returned to the Board in 2022, bringing continuity, experience and long-term sector insight to the organisation’s leadership. In January 2026, Colin was elected as Honorary President of UKTram in recognition of his exceptional and longstanding contribution to the Association and the wider sector.

As Managing Director of UKTram between 2013 and 2017, Colin guided the organisation through a formative period, overseeing its reconstitution as a credible trade body aligned with the Department for Transport’s Green Light for Light Rail agenda. His leadership during this time helped establish the governance frameworks and strategic direction that continue to underpin UKTram’s work today.

Since 2020, Colin has led the UKTram Centre of Excellence, supporting collaboration, technical knowledge-sharing and best practice across the sector. A strong advocate for skills development, apprenticeships and mentoring, Colin continues to play an active role in supporting the next generation of light rail professionals and safeguarding sector expertise.
