UKTram supports Better Transport Week 2026
UKTram is proud to support Better Transport Week 2026, joining organisations across the sector to highlight the essential role of sustainable transport in connecting people and places.
Organised by Campaign for Better Transport, the week-long campaign runs from today until the 21st of June, highlighting the social, economic, and environmental benefits of safe, accessible, affordable, reliable, integrated and green transport.
As a Corporate Champion of Campaign for Better Transport, UKTram supports this year’s theme of celebrating how improved transport connects people and places. Light rail systems have a proven track record of connecting communities and supporting economic growth by encouraging modal shift and reducing emissions. Trams and similar transit systems continue to play a key role in creating more sustainable, well-connected places.
Throughout the week, UKTram representatives will attend events focused on the future of transport and the role of innovation and inclusion in building effective networks. The week begins with an official launch event in Birmingham, marking the reopening of the Camp Hill Line to passenger services for the first time since the 1940s. This project is expected to deliver significant benefits for regeneration and regional growth, demonstrating the impact of transport investment on communities.
Later in the week, UKTram Managing Director James Hammett will attend the Better Transport Conference at London South Bank University. Taking place at London South Bank University, the free one-day event will explore this year's theme of how better transport can help connect people and places, bringing together transport professionals, policymakers, operators and members of the public for a day of discussion and debate.
The programme will open with a keynote address and fireside conversation with Lord Hendy before exploring a range of topics through breakout sessions, including rail reform, bus franchising, devolution and the human impact of poor transport.
Chelsea Branch, Marketing and Communications Manager, will also attend a partner Women in Transport event hosted by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The event, featuring a keynote from Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, will explore practical steps to strengthen career pathways for women and support a more inclusive transport sector.
Earlier this month, UKTram attended the launch of Campaign for Better Transport’s latest report, Track Record: What Great British Railways Can Learn from British Rail, at the House of Commons. As a Corporate Champion, UKTram was proud to participate in discussions with thought leaders from rail, light rail, and active travel.
Alongside the events, Campaign for Better Transport encourages individuals and organisations to make a sustainable transport pledge during Better Transport Week by choosing public transport, walking, or cycling where possible.
