As part of National Apprenticeship Week, KeolisAmey Metrolink has been showcasing apprentices past and present across its LinkedIn channel, highlighting the breadth of roles and routes and available across the organisation.

These profiles demonstrate how Metrolink apprenticeships support career development in security, engineering, business administration and professional services, while providing practical, paid pathways to long-term careers.

Below are highlights from this week’s featured apprentices. Thanks to KeolisAmeyMetrolink for getting involved in our National Apprenticeship round-up campaign.

Tom: Security First Line Manager Apprentice at KeolisAmey Metrolim

Tom is completing a Security First Line Manager apprenticeship, having started at Metrolink as a Customer Service Representative. Tom chose an apprenticeship to build his skills and career prospects in an industry he has always had a strong interest in, while learning directly from experienced colleagues. Since taking up his current role in January 2025, Tom has been working towards his qualification with the aim of progressing to a permanent position within the security team.

Tom reflected he enjoys the variety of his role and the opportunity to collaborate with teams across the business, supported by colleagues in the security function. Tom celebrates the fact that apprenticeships provide recognised qualifications, hands-on experience and opportunities to build strong professional networks.

Eugine:  Property Maintenance Operative Apprentice >>

Eugine is completing a Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship with The Growth Company, alongside his role as a Network Presentation Engineer Apprentice.

After 15 years as a Registered Dental Nurse, Eugine sought a practical way to change careers while remaining employed. The apprenticeship with KeolisAmey Metrolink provided that opportunity. Eugine values the support from senior colleagues, supervisors and line managers, who have helped him build confidence through clear explanations and on-the-job training, especially considering it is a new field in his career.

Eugine encourages others to consider apprenticeships as a debt-free way to gain experience and progression.
