A well-attended meeting of light rail engineers has helped showcase a range of innovative products designed to enhance asset management and safety.
Timed to coincide with a recent summit in Birmingham, the latest meeting of UKTram’s Light Rail Engineering Group also saw topical discussions on a range of challenges faced by colleagues across the sector.
In total, 39 engineers, representing networks, suppliers, and other organisations from across the UK, joined the meeting that also included an update on projects led by the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board.
Philip Terry, Lead Engineer at UKTram, commented: “As always, the meeting was well attended, with many participants attending in person and some online.
“Due to the summit taking place the following day, we were unable to stage one of our usual ‘best practice’ session. However, there was adequate opportunity for discussions on a range of hot topics, including the recent use of weld restoration for grooved rail gauge corners and its benefit to the sector.”
“The meeting also provided the ideal opportunity to examine the benefits of innovative new products available to the sector, such as simple but effective condition monitoring of assets using onboard kits from a range of suppliers.”
