Light Rail news roundup 11th August 2023

In this week’s news from the light rail sector – Tram ticket offer for football fans in Blackpool, customers in Edinburgh reminded of August bike ban, and an Autism Friendly Award for the operator of Tyne & Wear Metro.

Edinburgh Trams

With a series of arts festivals and events currently being hosted across Edinburgh, the city’s tram network is reminding customers that the carriage of bikes during this period is not permitted.

Due to limited space on board, restrictions apply on bringing bikes on the trams throughout August, and further details can be found here.

Blackpool Transport

Home and away fans heading to matches at Highbury Stadium this season can save themselves the hassle of parking by using a Fleetwood Flyer Ticket for tram or bus travel to the ground.

The ticket will be valid for supporters heading towards the game up to three hours before kick-off and up to two hours from when the final whistle blows, and all fans need to do is ask the driver or Conductor for a ‘Fleetwood Flyer’ when they board.

The Stanley Road and Lindel Road tram stops are just a short walk away from the ground and tram tickets cost just £2 per journey. Click here for the full story.

Tyne & Wear Metro

Training for frontline employees, detailed guides to support journeys, signage improvements and easily accessible online information are just some of the actions taken by Metro to become autism friendly.

Operator Nexus was recently presented with an Autism Friendly Award, designed to support organisations to provide an autism-friendly environment and inclusive customer service.

Anja Cole, Autism Accreditation Consultant with the National Autistic Society, said that there are lots of small changes businesses can make that make a big difference to autistic people, from customer information to staff awareness, and you can find out more here.
