All UK heritage tramways now represented

UKTram has reached a significant milestone, with its Heritage Tramway community now representing all heritage tramways across the UK and British Isles.

The announcement was made by Mike Crabtree, Chair of the UKTram Heritage Tramway Committee, during this month’s Light Rail Operators Committee (LROC) meeting. Mike joined the session online while members gathered in Edinburgh, sharing the positive update with colleagues from across the sector.

The milestone reflects growing engagement across the heritage tramway community and reinforces UKTram’s role as a collective voice for all forms of light rail, bringing together modern systems and heritage operations under one shared network.

The timing is particularly fitting, as many heritage tramways prepare to begin their 2026 operating season over the Easter weekend, welcoming visitors back across the country.

The UKTram Heritage Tramway Committee continues to play an important role in supporting consistency, knowledge sharing and collaboration across heritage systems, helping operators exchange practical insight and strengthen capability across the sector.

The next meeting of the UKTram Heritage Tramway Committee will take place at Summer Lane in Birmingham on Monday 20 April 2026.
