The way the UK light rail sector shares best practice has been praised at an international conference.
Its representative body, UKTram, was invited to share its experience of bringing key stakeholders together during the Dubai event, which brought together light rail leaders from the Middle East and Africa.
Organised by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), the MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition featured a presentation by UKTram Operations Manager Steve Duckering, highlighting the success of the organisation’s formal working groups.
“Following the presentation, we received plenty of positive feedback on how we share and promote best practice, particularly through our operators, engineering, and owners and authorities groups,” Steve explained.
“These report directly to the UKTram Executive, which is made up of senior figures from across the sector. This approach enables the sector to identify shared challenges while exploring potential solutions.”
The event in Dubai also enabled UKTram to strengthen its international links further and promote the country’s light rail expertise on a global stage.
“Delegates were certainly impressed with our commitment to knowledge sharing, and it was also fascinating to see how colleagues working on networks in other parts of the world approach their operational challenges,” Steve added.
