UKTram member, Hitachi, recently brought together industry leaders and suppliers for a showcase of the latest advancements in grid reliability, protection and energy storage at the Hitachi Energy Grid Components Roadshow.
The event featured demonstrations, workshops and networking opportunities, highlighting cutting-edge technologies designed to improve energy efficiency and resilience across transport and wider infrastructure sectors.
Representing UKTram, Lead Engineer Phill Terry attended the Leeds roadshow, gaining valuable insights into innovative solutions with potential relevance for the light rail sector. The exhibition also provided a platform for knowledge sharing between key stakeholders, reflecting the importance of collaboration in driving forward both energy reliability and transport innovation.
“It was good to see some familiar protection devices and the latest innovations including, remote monitoring, power factor correction and augmented reality headset / glasses as a maintenance tool. A presentation of the latest ABB inverters and motors combinations provided information on efficiencies close to 95% being achieved (IE4 >7.5kW) compared to standard induction machines which maybe an excessive and unknown expense for an operator to run”.
Hitachi Energy will now spend three months on the road, visiting 18 cities across 13 countries to showcase how its technologies can help boost power quality across Europe.
Thanks to Hitachi Energy for incorporating ABB, and to Ben Kirby, Lariab Zaidi, Moses Irungu, Halcyon Drives, and Inverter Drive Systems for their hospitality.
