Midland Metro Alliance celebrates a decade of delivery
UKTram member Colas Rail UK is celebrating a significant milestone as the Midland Metro Alliance (MMA) marks its 10th anniversary, recognising a decade of work to rejuvenate and expand the West Midlands Metro network.
To commemorate the milestone, the Alliance has published ‘Realising PoTential’, a new brochure dedicated to the technical and economic impact delivered by the MMA as part of the UK’s largest light rail scheme.
Reflecting on the success of the last decade, Colas Rail UK Urban and Industries Managing Director, Iain Anderson, said:
“Looking back on the last 10 years, the MMA has demonstrated the power of collaboration as we turn ambitious transport concepts into reality. I’m delighted that we have played a part to shape a more connected, prosperous, and ultimately sustainable West Midlands.”
Over the past decade, the Alliance has played a central role in the continued development of the West Midlands Metro, which now serves locations including Edgbaston Village, Victoria Square, the Jewellery Quarter, West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Bilston on its route between Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
The programme is set to continue, following contract awards in late 2025 for the second phases of the Birmingham Eastside and Wednesbury to Brierley Hill extensions, which are due to be completed in 2028. The anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on a decade of delivery while looking ahead to the next stage of the West Midlands Metro’s expansion.
