UKTram sponsors charity cycle challenge in support of the MND Association

UKTram is proud to be supporting the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association by sponsoring an ambitious charity cycle challenge from Land's End to John o' Groats. Claire O'Kane and her partner, Matt Price, will cycle almost 900 miles in just five days, averaging around 180 miles a day as they take on one of the UK's most demanding endurance rides to raise funds for the charity.

Motor neurone disease is a life-shortening neurological condition that affects the nerves controlling movement, causing progressive muscle weakness that can impact how people walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Through its research and support services, the MND Association helps people living with the condition and their families navigate the challenges it brings.

Chrissie, Claire's mum, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in September 2025. Despite her diagnosis, Chrissie has been determined to make a positive difference for others. Working with the MND Association, she has helped establish Chrissie's Club, a local support group for people living with MND in Dudley and the surrounding area.

Although completing Land's End to John o' Groats typically takes between 10 and 14 days, Claire and Matt aim to complete the journey in just five. Their opening day alone will see them ride almost 200 miles, climbing approximately half the elevation of Mount Everest.

As part of the challenge, Claire and Matt plan to visit tram systems in Edinburgh, Manchester and Blackpool, creating an opportunity to celebrate the UK's light rail networks while raising awareness and vital funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
