UKTram is pleased to welcome Octavius Infrastructure and Navitas Engineering to its growing membership network, further strengthening collaboration across the light rail, rail and integrated transport sectors.

Octavius Infrastructure, part of the RSK Group, is a Tier 1 delivery partner specialising in transport infrastructure projects across the UK. Navitas Engineering, an Octavius company, provides specialist electrical engineering consultancy services supporting rail and light rail systems throughout their lifecycle.

Both organisations, joining UKTram amid growing interest in light rail and mass transit, are committed to supporting knowledge sharing and the development of integrated transport networks.

For Octavius, membership aligns with its ambition to support local and combined authorities, as well as transport bodies, in delivering sustainable and connected transport infrastructure. The company has extensive experience delivering stations, interchanges, depots, highways and rail infrastructure projects.

Recent work includes a major lift renewal programme across the Docklands Light Railway network, helping maintain step-free access for passengers while modernising key assets. Through Transport for London frameworks, Octavius has also delivered station lighting upgrades, drainage improvements on the London tram network and rail bridge repairs across the capital.

The team noted that UKTram serves as a recognised focal point for the light rail sector and provides a valuable platform for building relationships, sharing expertise, and engaging with industry working groups.

Navitas Engineering, alongside Octavius, brings expertise in railway electrification, traction power systems, electrical safety and system integration. The consultancy supports clients from early feasibility and option development right through to design and maintenance.

Navitas has experience in both heavy and light rail, with projects including Docklands Light Railway, South Yorkshire Supertram and several international metro systems.

For Docklands Light Railway, Navitas was commissioned by KeolisAmey Docklands to review and strengthen electrical safety processes across the network. The project included the development of new procedures, risk assessments, training materials and implementation support, helping ensure work on or near live electrical equipment could be carried out safely and in line with industry requirements.

The company has also supported South Yorkshire Supertram through a power supply assessment linked to the pioneering Sheffield-Rotherham Tram-Train project. Working alongside Supertram, Navitas undertook monitoring and analysis of power demand across the network, helping inform future planning and operational decision-making as heavy and light rail systems were integrated.

While Octavius and Navitas operate in different parts of the supply chain, both organisations share a strong belief in partnership working and knowledge exchange.

Reflecting on the membership, Lucy Prior, Business Development Lead - Rail at Octavius commented:

“We believe transport has the power to make a real difference to people's lives. Better connections help communities and that's why we're passionate about supporting integrated transport solutions. Joining UKTram is an exciting opportunity for us to engage with the light rail sector, learn from others and share our own experience.”

Welcoming the new members, UKTram Managing Director James Hammett said:

“We are delighted to welcome Octavius Infrastructure and Navitas Engineering to UKTram. Both organisations bring valuable expertise and experience from across the wider transport sector, alongside a clear commitment to collaboration and integrated thinking. We look forward to working with them and supporting their engagement with the light rail community through our events and working groups.”

For both organisations, membership offers an opportunity not only to contribute expertise but also to learn from operators, authorities, and industry partners as the sector continues to evolve.

With increasing focus on integrated transport and the future role of mass transit in supporting communities, Octavius Infrastructure and Navitas Engineering look forward to playing an active role within the UKTram membership network.
