Since joining UKTram in 2016, Dan Hill has carved out a career built on curiosity and continuous learning.
Dan began his light rail journey as a Coordination Officer, very quickly immersing himself in the industry and took on key responsibilities for the £3 million Low Impact Light Rail Competition.
Over the years, he progressed through roles as Technical Officer and Executive Assistant and now takes on the position of Knowledge Manager.
“I’m excited to step into this role because it offers a unique opportunity to organise and manage knowledge effectively and help our members navigate a growing and evolving landscape of research, data, ideas and best practices,” Dan explains.
A key project under Dan’s leadership is creating a dedicated reference library and Request for Information (RFI) archive, a long-requested resource for UKTram members.
“This library will serve as a curated knowledge base, bringing together all the technical information, procedures and topics raised and discussed by members over the years. The aim is to make key information easier to access and help people save time, make more and collaborate more effectively across projects and organisations.”
“I’m especially looking forward to working across teams to ensure the library stays relevant and member-driven. It should add real value to daily decision-making, strategy and innovation.”
Dan’s progression at UKTram reflects a wider organisational commitment to nurturing talent from within.
“I’ve felt supported throughout my journey. It’s been encouraging to feel valued by my peers and colleagues - it really motivates me to keep growing and give back to the community.”
Looking to the future, Dan is optimistic about the role of data and technology in shaping the sector and proud to support the people driving it forward.
“The sector is evolving rapidly, from innovation to sustainability. There’s a growing need for timely, reliable information and I’m proud to support the people who keep our cities moving.
I hope this work helps shape a knowledge base that benefits the entire sector.”
As the sector evolves, Dan’s role will help ensure that knowledge-sharing remains central to UKTram’s offer, supporting decision-making and continuous improvement across networks, suppliers and new entrants to the industry.
Please join us in congratulating Dan and wishing him the best in his new role.
