Heritage Tramway Committee shares knowledge during summer meeting in Llandudno

Members of the UKTram Heritage Tramway Committee met in Llandudno to exchange knowledge and discuss common challenges to support the long-term future of the UK's heritage tramways.

Hosted by the Great Orme Tramway on Tuesday 21st July, the committee's summer meeting gave representatives from heritage tramways across the UK an opportunity to share experiences and discuss topics affecting the sector.

Discussions covered a range of practical issues, including the management of asbestos in heritage tramcars and overhead line equipment, attracting and retaining volunteers, funding opportunities and the ongoing challenge of achieving long-term sustainability. Members also shared recent successes from their own organisations, alongside lessons learned and areas where collaborative working can continue to support the sector.

Great Orme Tramway View

The meeting concluded with a tour of the Great Orme Tramway's facilities, where members were able to see recent improvements to the tramway's maintenance areas and learn more about the work being undertaken to support its future operation.

Reflecting on the meeting, Mike Crabtree, Chair of the UKTram Heritage Tramway Committee, said:

The Heritage Tramway Committee provides a forum for heritage tramways to discuss common issues, exchange best practice and strengthen collaboration across the sector. Regular meetings help ensure knowledge is shared between operators while supporting the preservation and continued development of the UK's unique tramway heritage.
