UKTram encourages members to contribute to Government's Mass Transit Taskforce Call for Evidence

UKTram is encouraging members to contribute to the Government's Mass Transit Taskforce Call for Evidence, helping shape the future of mass transit delivery across the UK. The newly established Taskforce has been created to examine how mass transit schemes can be planned, funded and delivered more effectively, while exploring the economic, social and environmental benefits they bring to towns and cities.
The work also supports recommendations set out in the New Towns Taskforce Report, recognising the role integrated mass transit can play in supporting future growth.
The Call for Evidence invites views from across the transport sector on a broad range of topics, including governance, funding, skills, planning, procurement and project delivery. Responses will help inform the Taskforce's recommendations to Government on how barriers to delivering new mass transit schemes can be reduced.
UKTram is preparing its own response on behalf of the light rail sector, drawing on the knowledge and experience of the team and members from across the industry to ensure the submission reflects a broad range of perspectives.
The consultation also presents an opportunity to highlight the expertise the light rail sector can bring to the Taskforce's work. UKTram Managing Director James Hammett and UKTram Board Member and Managing Director of West Midlands Metro, Sophie Allison, have both been invited to serve as Expert Advisers, helping to shape the Taskforce's findings and recommendations.
They will be joined by UKTram Board Member and Head of Light Rail at Network Rail, Simon Coulthard, whose appointment will also help ensure the benefits of the Mixed-Use Railway (MUR) philosophy are considered as future rail-based transport options are developed.
James Hammett, Managing Director of UKTram, said:

The stronger the collective voice, the greater the opportunity to demonstrate the value of light rail and integrated mass transit."
