Following the success of its inaugural Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) training course earlier this year, UKTram is once again partnering with Skill Step Training to deliver another specialist programme designed to strengthen skills, safety and technical expertise across the light rail sector.

Designed for new and experienced professionals working with or around light rail overhead line equipment, the three-day course combines classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience to provide delegates with a clear understanding of UK light rail OLE systems and the requirements for working safely around them in an urban environment.

Delivered in partnership with NSAR-accredited training provider Skill Step Training, the course reflects UKTram's continued commitment to supporting professional development, sharing best practice and helping to build the specialist skills needed across the sector.

The programme covers:

  • The function and key components of UK light rail OLE systems

  • Health, safety and regulatory requirements

  • Typical OLE maintenance activities and processes

  • Practical construction and deconstruction tasks using the correct tools and equipment

Delegates will complete both theoretical and practical assessments, with successful completion leading to certification.

The course is expected to take place in Doncaster on either 10th–12th August or 17th–19th August 2026, depending on delegate demand and final scheduling.

Phillip Terry, UKTram Lead Engineer, said:

"Following the positive response to our first OLE course, we're pleased to be working with Skillstep again to provide another opportunity for colleagues across the sector to develop specialist knowledge and practical skills. Supporting workforce development is an important part of strengthening the sector and we're looking forward to delivering another successful programme."

The course is offered at a subsidised rate through UKTram with a discount for UKTram members. Please contact Phillip Terry for pricing and booking information.

Those interested are invited to register their interest by contacting Phillip Terry at phillip.terry@uktram.co.uk, indicating their preferred course dates. Final course dates and booking information will be confirmed once delegate numbers are known.
