UKTram is pleased to renew its partnership with Women in Transport for a fourth consecutive year, reaffirming a joint commitment to a more inclusive and representative transport sector.
Women in Transport is the UK’s leading not-for-profit advancing equity in transport. Its mentoring programmes, events and initiatives support women throughout their careers and encourage employers to encourage inclusive workplaces.
This renewed partnership demonstrates UKTram’s ongoing commitment to attracting and developing talent in the light rail sector and supporting initiatives that help people succeed in their careers.
Over the past four years, UKTram and Women in Transport have collaborated on events, campaigns and knowledge-sharing activities to promote diversity and encourage more people to pursue careers in transport.
Most recently, Chelsea Branch, UKTram Digital Marketing and Communications Manager, joined the 2026 cohort of Women in Transport’s Advance mentoring programme.
Reflecting on her experience so far, Chelsea said:
"I'm part of this year's Advance mentoring programme and have recently completed my fourth session. Reflecting on where I am now compared to six months ago, I can't put into words the value and benefit it's brought me. It's given me confidence and the opportunity to learn from a brilliant mentor and I'm proud that UKTram continues to support Women in Transport and the important work they do to help people grow and connect and across the transport sector."
James Hammett, Managing Director of UKTram, added:
"The future of light rail depends on attracting and developing talented people from all backgrounds. Women in Transport plays a vital role in this, and its commitment to building a more inclusive and representative industry continually inspires us as at UKTram to think about what more we can do to support this. We've seen first-hand the impact their programmes and events have on individuals and organisations alike, and we look forward to continuing to work together for many years to come."
This partnership comes as the light rail sector places greater emphasis on careers and attracting the next generation of professionals. Through its leadership and professional development initiatives, Women in Transport continues to help build a transport industry that reflects the communities it serves. Sonya Byers, CEO at Women in Transport, commented about the renewal:
"We are delighted to renew our partnership with UKTram for a fourth year, building on a strong and collaborative relationship grounded in shared values of innovation, inclusion and industry leadership. UKTram’s commitment to developing talent, evidenced through their support for their members to actively participate in our Lead and Advance programmes. I am grateful for the incredible support that we have received from the whole team at UKTram in helping us spread awareness and visibility of our work and their active participation and support in our events and at industry events across the UK.’’
As the collective voice of light rail in the UK and Ireland, UKTram remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage diverse talent, create opportunities and help ensure the sector remains an attractive and rewarding place to build a career.
