UKTram is pleased to welcome Tim Bilby to the team as Stakeholder & Innovation Manager, strengthening our capacity to support innovation and engagement across the light rail sector.
Tim joins UKTram with more than decade of experience with Sheffield Supertram, where he began in 2012 as Head of Finance and Commercial and went on to serve as Managing Director from 2017. Tim led the operation through periods of change and challenge, earning a strong reputation for inclusive leadership and promoting a supportive, people-focused culture. More recently he has undertaken Safety and Finance roles with Network Rail.
In his new role at UKTram, Tim will lead stakeholder engagement activity, support collaboration between members and partners and help promote innovation that delivers practical benefits for the sector. The role also includes co-ordinating engagement events and best practice activity, strengthening links with statutory bodies and academia and representing UKTram at industry forums.
Tim brings with him operational insight and a strong understanding of the needs and priorities of operators, owners and partners across the sector. Welcoming Tim to the organisation, James said:
‘’This year, we will continue strengthening the value we bring to our members. Tim’s appointment allows us to spend more time engaging with an expanding membership, while also dedicating resource to innovation. Tim’s experience within the light rail sector means he will be able to hit the ground running, helping ensure the sector is well placed to identify and benefit from emerging ideas and technologies that support long-term performance and continuous improvement across the sector.”
Reflecting on his appointment Tim said:
“I’m really excited about this opportunity to return to the light rail community and work with all stakeholders to develop ideas that can benefit all. As a sector that has shown it can be agile and flexible to implement change, I believe we can deliver some fantastic innovation to help provide even better service and outcomes.”
Tim’s appointment builds on UKTram’s continued organisational growth. Over the past year, the team has expanded to enhance member support and sector capability, including the appointment of Dan Hill as Knowledge Manager and Chelsea Branch as Digital Marketing and Communications Manager.
