Meet the Member: Wabtec joins UKTram
Rail technology and engineering specialist Wabtec has joined UKTram, looking to build stronger connections across light rail.
Wabtec UK provides rail technology, engineering services and lifecycle support for passenger and freight operators across the UK. Through its network of UK sites, the company supports rolling stock throughout its lifecycle, with expertise spanning component manufacture and refurbishment, maintenance, fleet support and digital technologies.
Its work covers a broad range of rolling stock systems, including braking, HVAC, doors, bogies, wheelsets and pantographs, as well as passenger information and powertrain solutions. Joining UKTram gives Wabtec an opportunity to build on its long-standing work in rail by developing closer relationships across the light rail sector.

Through its membership, the company is keen to contribute to conversations around fleet reliability and extending the life of existing assets, while exploring the role digital technology and innovation can play in supporting light rail.
Understanding the priorities and challenges facing tram operators and infrastructure teams will also be an important part of its involvement. Wabtec sees knowledge sharing between operators, suppliers and other organisations as an important way to address challenges common across different networks.

Looking ahead, Wabtec is continuing to focus on helping customers get more from existing assets through maintenance, engineering expertise and digital technology. The company is investing in solutions designed to improve reliability, safety and operational efficiency, while supporting sustainability goals, and will use its engagement with UKTram to explore how this experience could support the changing needs of light rail operators.
