New Tram Talks puts UKTram member stories in the spotlight
The latest issue of Tram Talks, UKTram’s member-led magazine, is now available online and shares insights, experiences and stories from across the light rail sector.
The October edition brings together contributions from UKTram members and partners, exploring the people and the projects in UK and Ireland light rail.
Navitas Engineering looks at how traction power modelling is supporting informed decisions on networks from Sheffield to South America, while Jacobs explores the potential for Luas Cork to help shape a better-connected, lower-carbon city.
Waterman Aspen considers how transferable skills and secondments could help build the workforce needed for light rail’s next chapter, while Telent’s Olivia Brown explores the importance of integration when planning future network upgrades.
The issue also turns its attention to the next generation. UKTram shares an update on its Future Skills and Careers work, including engagement with schools and activity aimed at helping more young people understand the opportunities available across the sector.
International knowledge sharing features too, with researchers in Gothenburg drawing on experience from UK light rail as they explore how tramway systems can respond to the effects of a changing climate.
The magazine also takes a closer look at the latest Department for Transport light rail and tram statistics, examining what the 2025/26 figures tell us about passenger journeys, the recovery since the pandemic and what comes next for existing and future networks.
UKTram Marketing and Communications Manager Chelsea Branch said:
“I’m really proud to see the third issue come together. There’s such a varied mix of stories in this edition and I think that reflects just how much is happening at the moment. One of the things I love about Tram Talks is that it gives us a platform to share stories that might otherwise go under the radar. Our members have so much knowledge and experience to share and the magazine gives us another way to showcase that."
“A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this issue. It’s been brilliant seeing it all come together and I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together.”
