UKTram renews support for landmark 20th anniversary UK Light Rail Conference as programme is released

UKTram has confirmed it will once again support the UK Light Rail Conference, as the sector's flagship event prepares to celebrate its 20th anniversary later this month. With the full programme now available, delegates can begin planning their conference experience, connect with fellow attendees and explore the wide range of sessions taking place throughout the event.

Taking place at Nottingham Trent University from the 30^th of June to the 1^st of July 2026, the conference will return to the city where it first began in 2006. More than 350 delegates are expected to attend this year's event, which will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities across two days.

This year's event marks a notable milestone for both the conference and the wider sector. What started as a one-day gathering of around 80 delegates has grown into the UK's largest dedicated light rail conference, attracting more than 350 attendees each year and providing a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The recently released conference programme highlights the breadth of expertise set to be represented across the event. Delegates will hear from Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands, alongside representatives from light rail systems across Nottingham, Edinburgh, Coventry, Tyne and Wear, Sheffield, the West Midlands, Docklands Light Railway and West Yorkshire.

The programme will also explore topics including infrastructure, technology, operations, investment and future network development, giving insight into the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector. As part of the anniversary celebrations, delegates will have the opportunity to attend a special evening event hosted in partnership with Tramlink Nottingham and Nottingham Express Transit.

James will also be among the confirmed speakers at this year's conference, with further details about his session and the programme expected to be announced in the coming days. The 2026 conference will be held under the theme 'Past. Present. Future, reflecting on the evolution of light rail over the last 20 years while examining the technologies, policies and partnerships that will shape the sector in the decades ahead.

The programme will include keynote presentations, panel discussions, round-table sessions and networking opportunities, covering topics ranging from innovation and sustainability to future investment, operational excellence and network development.
