UKTram was proud to represent the light rail sector at the Office of Rail and Road’s (ORR) annual stakeholder event, A Year in Rail and the Track Ahead, held on 17th July 2025 at The Memoir Club, London.

Our Managing Director, James Hammett, attended the event, which brought together senior leaders and decision-makers from across the transport industry to reflect on key achievements and the challenges and opportunities for the year ahead.

The ORR shared insights from their latest reports on safety, consumer protection and economic regulation. The event further underscored the importance of collaboration and a clear focus on proactive risk management during a period of significant reform across the mainline and light rail sectors.

Speakers included:

  • John Larkinson, ORR Chief Executive

  • Richard Hines, HM Chief Inspector of Railways

  • Stephanie Tobyn, Director of Strategy, Policy and Reform

  • Richard Coates, Deputy Director of Railway Planning and Performance

The event also featured a video address from Ruth Cadbury MP, Chair of the Transport Select Committee, followed by a closing panel Q&A. James was personally thanked for UKTram’s continued role in representing the light rail sector during these conversations.

“Events like this are vital for ensuring that the light rail voice is heard as part of wider regulatory discussions,” James said. “It was an excellent opportunity to reinforce shared priorities and strengthen our commitment to a safe and integrated future for public transport.”
