UKTram is pleased to welcome Telent as a new member, strengthening the organisation’s growing community.

Telent designs, delivers and supports solutions that enable organisations to operate critical ICT and communications networks. With experience across transport, emergency services, network providers, higher education and the public sector, the company brings a strong focus on digital infrastructure and systems integration.

Within the transport sector, Telent is expanding its work in light rail and mass transit, supporting authorities and operators with the integration of communications and technology across both new and existing networks.

The decision to join UKTram reflects a growing focus on the next phase of light rail, where attention is shifting towards renewal and modernisation and the role of digital infrastructure and integration.

Olivia Brown, Business Development Manager for Light Rail at Telent, said:

“Light rail is moving into a phase focused more on renewal and modernisation than expansion, with increasing emphasis on performance, resilience and customer experience.
“As systems become more complex, digital infrastructure and systems integration are becoming central to how networks are delivered and operated. UKTram provides an important forum for engaging with the sector, sharing insight and supporting collaboration as we continue to grow our presence in light rail and mass transit.”

Telent has recently strengthened its focus in this area, with Olivia’s appointment bringing experience from very light rail and innovation projects. The company is particularly interested in contributing to discussions around systems integration and digital infrastructure, as well as understanding how networks can better align communications and data to support safe and reliable operations.

Telent also recognises the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing across the sector, particularly as programmes become more complex and interconnected.

A recent example of this work includes Telent’s involvement in the Manchester Metrolink communications network upgrade, which replaced legacy transmission infrastructure with a resilient fibre-optic network delivered during live operations. Completed in 2025, the programme provides a long-term digital backbone to support future upgrades and network performance.

By joining UKTram, Telent aims to engage with operators, authorities and partners across the light rail sector, contributing expertise while learning through collaboration.
