UKTram updates operational resources on Members' Hub following sector collaboration

UKTram has added a series of updated operational and technical resources to its Members’ Hub, continuing its work to support shared learning, collaboration and knowledge exchange across the light rail sector.

The latest additions include updated guidance covering Driver Recruitment Best Practice, Driver Training and Rostering, developed through discussion and collaboration within the UKTram Light Rail Operations Committee (LROC).

Compiled by Steve Duckering, Operations Manager, the resources reflect operational insights and experience shared across the sector, providing practical guidance and support for operators and industry partners.

Alongside the updated operational documents, UKTram has added new engineering resources from Phil Terry, Lead Engineer at UKTram, through the Light Rail Engineering Group (LREG).

These include a detailed technical report examining Edinburgh Trams' rail-to-highway sealant replacement programme, documenting the methodology, equipment, best practice and lessons learned from the works, as well as supporting information on the sealant application technology used during the project.

The resources provide insight into infrastructure maintenance and demonstrate the practical benefits of sharing knowledge across networks. Steve Duckering said:

"These documents would not have been possible without the collaboration and willingness across the sector to share knowledge and experience. They also demonstrate the value of UKTram’s functional groups and their role in supporting learning and discussion across the industry." 

The updates form part of UKTram’s commitment to encouraging collaboration and the sharing of operational and engineering best practice through its committees, working groups and member network. 

LROC and LREG continue to play an important role in supporting open discussion around the opportunities and challenges affecting modern light rail systems, while helping facilitate knowledge sharing across the wider sector.
