UKTram is pleased to welcome Tony Gee and Partners as the newest member of its expanding community. Tony Gee and Partners, an owner-managed engineering consultancy, is known for delivering complex infrastructure and innovative transport projects that provide lasting value to communities.
The organisation already plays a key role in the light rail sector, contributing to the design of the West Midlands Metro and supporting Coventry’s Very Light Rail City Demonstrator 2 project. Joining UKTram represents a significant step in Tony Gee & Partners’ expanding involvement in light rail and demonstrates their commitment to shaping the sector’s future.
Speaking about the decision to join, the company said:
"As part of the alliance delivering the design of the West Midlands Metro and now playing a central role in shaping the UK’s first Very Light Rail in Coventry, joining UKTram feels like a natural next step. Light rail is no longer a niche specialism for us; it is a growing area of strategic focus. We want to be part of the conversation that defines how these systems are designed, delivered and integrated into the places they serve.”
Tony Gee and Partners brings extensive experience in designing infrastructure for complex urban environments and is especially interested in sector innovation, evolving design standards and the legislative frameworks that support new approaches.
The organisation is also keen to contribute to discussions on placemaking and the role of permanent transport infrastructure in supporting long-term investment and confidence in towns and cities.
“Light rail schemes are among the most complex infrastructure projects a city can undertake,” the company explained. They cross organisational boundaries, touch communities, require regulatory innovation and demand long-term commitment from multiple stakeholders.
“We believe sharing knowledge throughout all stages, from design in constrained urban environments to working with communities and navigating standards departures, is how the UK builds the confidence and capability to deliver more systems, faster and better. That is exactly why we have joined UKTram.”

Current priorities for Tony Gee and Partners include Coventry’s Very Light Rail City Demonstrator 2, which is establishing new legislative and operational frameworks for very light rail, as well as ongoing work on Birmingham’s Metro network during its centenary year.
Both projects reflect the organisation’s belief that ambitious, well-designed transport infrastructure can transform how cities grow and invest.
UKTram looks forward to working with Tony Gee and Partners and supporting their continued contributions to the future of light rail in the UK and Ireland.
